Two Way Prayer

…to find the balance you want, this is what you must become.

You must keep your feet grounded so firmly on the earth that it's like you have 4 legs instead of 2. That way, you can stay in the world. But you must stop looking at the world through your head. Instead, you must look through your heart

Elizabeth Gilbert

For the past month I’ve been reading my favorite writer Elizabeth Gilbert’s love letters to herself, or what she is calling two way prayer.

True divinity is relaxing completely in the company of somebody that you know is incredibly fond of you.

So I have started using her prompts. Writing a letter to myself, from unconditional love. Or from God.

One thing Liz said on a podcast with Tim Ferris that deeply resonated with me was “what if God is just the most loving voice we talk to ourselves with inside our own head.”

More often than not, that voice is not the one speaking to us regularly, cheering us on. Loving us despite all of our flaws and misgivings. Its critiquing us, judging us, looking at our past or future, worried. This is our default mode folks. You are not alone.

What Vedic teachings have taught me is that feeling peaceful, grounded, and rooted in love takes A LOT of continual work. For forever. You always have to come back to it. So the next time you see a Guru, spiritual teacher or mentor who you think must just wake up that way. I promise you, they don’t. They come back to the teachings and practices that bring them back to their heart. Always.

So i’ve started doing it most Sundays after I read Liz’s substack.

Since I have not posted a blog in over a year, I wanted to share it with you.

What it looks like, writing myself a letter from unconditional love. And perhaps, invite you to do the same.

Dear love, what would you have me know today?

My koukla mou, my honey bunny, just look at you will you. How could I not simply adore you!

For all the little ways you share your love with the world. I love and accept you just as you are, isn't that beautiful? You are not behind, late for the adult game of life, and nobody else’s judgment can ever reflect on the beauty of your sweet soul. Its as sweet as the honey in your bee hives outside.

Your soul is good. I’ve watched you closely over the years.

Watched you cry in grief, in joy, at beautiful sunsets, at the injustices in the world, witnessed all the work you have done to raise your consciousness, your awareness, and your vibration (no easy task might I add). And despite living in a world that can feel cruel and unfair, you continue to focus on the good. I am so proud of you for that. Everyone around you has benefited because of it, but most importantly, you will only continue to embody more of me the older you get. How amazing is that? Its only going to get better.

Watching you create more space in your body, and your heart, for you to live your fullest expression of you, makes me want to cry. I am crying. Tears of unconditional love and encouragement. Dont stop now.

Keep busting up anything and everything that would make you dim your light, your love, and your divine expression of you, greek goddess of my heart. Watching you living aligned with love and purpose makes me want to dance, yes yes darling, you dancing is me fully expressed. Please, do it more often. Actually perhaps that is what you came here to do. Dont forget that.

What brings you joy is your superpower. Do more of it, and watch the universe match that vibration with more of me! Ohh boy, oh joy. In joy I love seeing you, and your smile.

Now you can see, so much love to share so little time. But really, you have all the time you need.

Slow down. Deep breathes. Go make some cookies, share them with your neighbors, and don’t stop doing what you are doing. Take action from me in your mind and heart more often. Only good things will come from this. I promise.

I love you. I want you here. You are loved and wanted. That is all.
