Rock, Bone, River, Body
I am rock, animal, splinter, and bone.
Can you imagine
I am the bear in the cliffside cave
or the lightning in the sky.
You are beyond what I can imagine.
Now and then, I travel into the mountains
to remember
what modern life
tries to make me forget
I am not my house, my car,
not knowledge, nor words, nor family
I am the glittering
fish breaking the water’s surface.
I am the magpie nestled into the Elk’s fur
while snowflakes fall from the sky;
I bury myself into his fur, ruffle my feathers,
hear the cool wind rush through the trees
and know that on this softest of mornings
I too, am a part of the great eagle
sweeping the sky above.
Surely you can imagine that.
